Keeping bigHead fasteners on track

20 Mar 2025

At bigHead Bonding Fasteners we take the complexity out of finding and delivering the perfect fastening solution. Of course, behind every fastener that finds its way into a car, a boat, or an offshore turbine, there’s a well-oiled process that keeps the production and dispatch operation running seamlessly. Our latest records show that 99% of deliveries meet the customers’ deadlines – a statistic of which we are justifiably proud.

Two key players behind the scenes are Tina and Deborah, bigHead’s sales and admin duo, who keep orders flowing, customers happy, and fasteners reaching their destination.

We thought it might be interesting to investigate their typical day!

Tina has been with bigHead for ten years, and her relationship with the company goes back even further as she worked for a supplier that provided key components for bigHeads. Deborah came from a completely different sales background and admits she had a steep learning curve in her first weeks.  “I had no idea that so many parts of so many everyday objects needed such attention to fastening! ” she admits.

So, what does keeping customers supplied with bigHeads entail?

Repeat orders are the easiest side of the job. Stock levels are checked, items out recorded and sent off to dispatch. It’s the other type of order which sets the bigHead machinery into action –  “We often need to help people work out which bigHead is right for them,” Tina explains. “We’ll point them to the website where we have technical data sheets and configuration pages. It’s all about making sure they get the right solution. If that hasn’t helped then we call up further help from our technical team and they can delve far more deeply, finding out exactly what the customer needs to do with the fastener. From there the best product can be found, or a bespoke fastener made”

More than just sales: The engine room of bigHead

Processing orders isn’t just about taking details and hitting ‘send’. Tina and Deborah need to ensure every order is accurate with pricing, and part numbers, that the fasteners are in stock, and that delivery can meet customers’ timelines.

When it comes to dispatch, Tina and Deborah are the link between customers and production. “If something’s in stock, great, it goes out quickly,” Tina says. “If it’s not, we’re working with production to check lead times and see what’s possible.”

Last but not least, credit limits need monitoring, keeping customers informed if they’re nearing their limit, and making sure accounts stay in good standing.

A workplace that works

“bigHead is a very happy place to work,” says Deborah. “We’re always busy, but the saying is true – ‘the more you have to do, the more you get done.’ There’s a great energy here. And being in the beautiful surroundings of Verwood adds to that feeling. We are lucky enough to work in a place that people come to for their holidays, “ says Deborah, “And we do appreciate it”.

The team also enjoys being part of initiatives like On Hand, a corporate volunteering platform which rewards individual’s sustainable actions, each logged activity contributing to tree planting.

The fixers you can rely on

Whether they’re assisting a customer with a fastening conundrum, keeping orders on track, or making sure bigHead’s systems run smoothly, Tina and Deborah are at the heart of the action. They may not be on the production line, but without them, those fasteners wouldn’t reach their destination.

So next time you place an order with bigHead, you can be sure it’s in good hands—Tina and Deborah are on the case and holding it all together.
